Vegetable hydraulic oil for green davits

At first you would not think that a davit or passerelle could be environmentally friendly. However after posing the question to Rick Thomas, VP of sales of Nautical Structures, I was pleasantly surprised by his answer. Nautical Structures has been using a vegetable based hydraulic oil in their systems for three years. The oil is a Quaker state product.

Quaker Chemical Corporation (NYSE: KWR) has introduced a series of fire resistant hydraulic fluids designated QUINTOLUBRIC 888(click here for case study). The new fluids are designed to meet the ever-increasing demands of the global equipment design industry and multi-industry end users, filling the need for consistent high performance and identical product formulations to support worldwide equipment usage.

Fire resistant QUINTOLUBRIC 888 hydraulic fluids do not contain water, mineral oil, or phosphate ester. Based on synthetic, organic esters (HFD-U) and additives, they are available in 2 viscosities: ISO VG68 and ISO VG46. QUINTOLUBRIC 888 fluids provide biodegradability, are non-irritating, contain no hazardous ingredients, and are not toxic to aquatic life. They provide better hydraulic fluid performance than fluids containing water. They can replace anti-wear mineral oil-based hydraulic fluids used in fire hazardous and environmentally sensitive hydraulic applications without compromising overall hydraulic system operation.

QUINTOLUBRIC 888 fluids can be used in any equipment designed for traditional mineral oil fluids. The product is fire resistant, for applications where fire hazard is a concern, and limits the spread of the fire through its self-extinguishing properties. In addition to fire resistance, these fluids provide excellent biodegradability, are non-irritating, contain no hazardous ingredients and are not toxic to aquatic life, making them ideal for use where better environmental protection is required.

Properly maintained, Quintolubric® 888 has a useful lifecomparable to that of mineral oil fluids. Specific fluid lifetimedepends primarily on temperature

Quintolubric® 888 offers the lubrication level of premium, anti-wear hydraulic oils.

Quintolubric® 888 can be used with hydraulic components from all major manufacturers.

Since inventing polyol ester (HFD-U) hydraulic fluids in the 1970s as an alternative to phosphate ester hydraulic fluids, Quaker's hydraulic fluids have found widespread application in many industries including steel plants, coal mines and foundries. With experience in more than 10,000 hydraulic systems around the world, Quaker has built a strong reputation among both equipment builders and end users.
